The subject of the epistle of Sheikh Al-Islâm the revitalizing imam Mohammad bin 'Abdil-Wahhâb - may Allah have mercy on him - is the enumeration of the things by which Islam is annulled for someone who claims Islam and therefore it is linked to a subject which is to specify the things which take the Muslim out of Islam.

And this because the word Nawâqid (annulative) is the plural of the word Nâqid and this word is formed from the letters nûn (ن), qâf (ق) and dâd (ض) which has a single authentic origin which indicates the rupture, the cancellation of a thing and that is why it is said: نقض العهد: the breaking of a commitment and it may be that it indicates (also), in one sense among the senses, a kind of sound; we therefore say about the sound made by the joints صوت المفاصل: نقيضها and this meaning is close to the first because it is as if they (the joints) were breaking and we therefore heard a sound due to that.
