This work is the translation of the summary of one of the sublime masterpieces of the illustrious scholar Ibn al-Jawzi (597h), entitled “Sifatu Safwa” (The qualities of the elites). It is one of the most famous works written in the field of biographies of the devotees and ascetics of this community in which the author endeavored to bring to light some of their virtues, their words, and the wisdom of these elites as well as certain fabulous aspects of their worship. The richness of the book in the number of exemplary men and women produces a grandiose effect on the reader's soul which stimulates him to want to take them as models for his religious life, or at least to try to imitate them.
