WHY THIS BOOK?

ʿAbdu l-Ghanī al-Maqdsī went out one day with his companions and they stopped near a monastery. The shaykh sat by a river while one of his companions went to this monastery and knocked on the door. A monk appeared and asked him: “What is your religion?” - I am Muslim, he replied. - Which person are you? the monk continued. - Muẖammad, the Messenger of Allah - صلى الله عليه وسلم -. » Then, the monk wanted to know the genealogy of the Prophet - صلى الله عليه وسلم - and his description but the man had no knowledge of it so the monk refused to honor him as it was customary to do towards the guests.

The companion returned to the shaykh and reported his discussion with the monk. Also ʿAbdu l-Ghanī al-Maqdsī mentioned to him information concerning the genealogy and attitudes of the Prophet - صلى الله عليه وسلم -, and the man went to inform the monk. The latter, however, objected: “This science does not come from you. She is more like the shaykh sitting by the river.” The monk had in fact seen the shaykh and his appearance pleased him.
