It was at the request of Ahmad Ibn Salama that Muslim decided to write his famous Sahîh. The title he gave to his work is “al-Musnad al-Sahîh”. That said, time ends up obliterating this name among the public to give way to the one we know: Sahîh Muslim.

It was in his hometown and at the age of twenty-nine that Muslim began writing his Sahîh, he only finished it after fifteen years. Throughout the years he devoted to writing this masterful work, he scrutinized no less than three hundred thousand hadiths to select those that make up his collection, texts with proven authenticity.

Scholars agreed to consider Sahîh Muslim as a collection of authentic hadiths and even designated it as the most authentic collection after the Koran and after Sahîh al-Bukhârî. The translation

This is a complete translation of Sahîh Muslim, including the chains of transmission. We have chosen to divide our work into six volumes, each segmented into books (kitâb), each book composed of various chapters (bâb).

After careful consideration, we opted for a bilingual presentation of the Arabic and French texts facing each other. This has the advantage of being able to compare the Arabic text with its translation and of offering increased ease and quality of research and understanding. We have tried as far as possible to translate the texts while remaining as faithful to the original as possible.

To ensure the good quality of our work, both linguistically and religiously, we have referred to numerous comments (sharh) that Muslim scholars have made on Sahîh Muslim and which we have cited in our preface.

In some cases, when we deemed it useful, certain beneficial comments, drawn from these works or others, have been included in footnotes to enrich the translation and offer better understanding to readers.
